Multilingual dietitians, advice that fits your kitchen
Nutritional advice in the language you feel comfortable in, and tailored to what you eat at home.
Sport, pregnancy & eating behaviour · Amsterdam and Almere · no referral needed

Does this sound familiar?
Talking about food and health is easiest in the language you think in. Our dietitians are multilingual. And because healthy eating is possible in every cuisine, the advice fits what you cook at home, whether that is Dutch home cooking or something else entirely.
Who is this guidance for?
If you recognise yourself in one or more of these situations, a dietitian is a logical next step. Not sure? A single question by e-mail is answered free of charge.
- You feel more comfortable explaining your complaints in your own language
- You have had advice before that didn't fit what you cook at home
- You want to eat healthily within religious dietary rules or during fasting periods
- Your family cooks with you or has a say in what you eat, and you want to involve them in the advice
- Your GP (huisarts) has referred you and you are looking for a dietitian who speaks your language
What we do
- Advice that fits your cuisine and habits; nothing has to be 'forbidden'
- Multilingual support, also for family members who share in the decisions
- Attention to holidays, fasting periods and religious dietary rules, whatever your faith
How nutrition advice in your language works
Nutritional advice only works if it fits what you really eat. Potatoes, rice, bread, roti, couscous or pasta: every dish can have a place in a healthy eating pattern, once you know how to handle portions, fat, salt and sugar. That applies to everyone who comes to us, whatever cuisine you are used to.
For us, multilingual mainly means: you don't have to search for words. You can explain your complaints, your habits and your questions in the language that is most comfortable for you. Where it helps, we take family habits, holidays and religious dietary rules into account, including if you have diabetes or high blood pressure. Family members who cook with you or share in the decisions are welcome to join the conversation.
Otherwise the support is the same as all our care: an intake of 60 minutes with measurements, a personal plan and reviews in which we adjust course. Covered by the basic health insurance (basisverzekering), with no referral letter needed, at our locations in Amsterdam and Almere, at home or online throughout the Netherlands.
What to expect from your programme
The aim is a healthy eating pattern that you recognise as your own cuisine, and that your family can share. Whether it is about weight loss, diabetes, cholesterol or pregnancy: the medical goal determines the content, your daily life determines the form. We take measurements at every review, so your progress becomes visible.
We make no promises about kilos or timelines. What we do is measure the same way at every evaluation, so you see your progress in black and white.

Is a multilingual dietitian covered?
Yes. Dietary advice is covered for three hours per calendar year under the Dutch basic health insurance (basisverzekering), with no referral letter needed. With supplementary insurance you are often entitled to more sessions. If you are over 18, your deductible (eigen risico) applies, except within an integrated care network (ketenzorg). We are contracted with all Dutch health insurers and bill them directly, so you receive no invoice.
Dietitian without a referral letter
For dietary advice you do not need a referral from your GP (huisarts): you sign up directly online and we get in touch within one working day. Only if you want to be guided within integrated care (ketenzorg), so that your deductible is not touched, does your GP request a referral. Where useful, we always coordinate with your GP or specialist.
Frequently asked questions about multilingual nutrition advice
Which languages do you speak?
Our dietitians are multilingual. Let us know when you register which language you prefer to speak, and we will see what is possible.
Is a multilingual dietitian also covered by Dutch health insurance?
Yes. The language makes no difference to the cover: three hours of dietary advice per calendar year from the basic health insurance (basisverzekering), with no referral letter needed, with every Dutch insurer.
Can my partner or a family member come along?
Please do. Whoever cooks with you or shares in decisions about food helps put the advice into practice. Let us know when you register who is coming along.
Do you take religious dietary rules or fasting into account?
Yes, whatever your faith. We help you with a sensible distribution of meals, including during fasting periods. If you have diabetes or another condition, also check with your doctor whether fasting is safe for you.
Can I see a dietitian online in the Netherlands?
Yes. Online video consultations are covered in exactly the same way as an appointment at one of our locations, wherever you live in the Netherlands. You can also mix and match: the intake in Amsterdam or Almere, for example, and the follow-up sessions from home. Let us know your preference when you register.
