Does this sound familiar?
Stomach ache, fatigue, skin problems or unexplained reactions after eating: an allergy or intolerance can make everyday eating complicated. Cutting out foods on your own often leads to deficiencies.

- You have a diagnosed food allergy, for example to nuts, peanuts, milk, egg or wheat
- You suspect lactose intolerance or gluten sensitivity and want to investigate it properly
- You have coeliac disease and want a complete, balanced gluten-free diet

- Your child has a food allergy and you want to know how to cook healthily and safely
What we do

- A complete, balanced diet without the culprits, keeping convenience and flavour
- Advice for lactose intolerance, gluten sensitivity, nut and other allergies
- Practical help with reading labels and eating out
How nutrition helps with food allergies and intolerances
In a food allergy your immune system reacts to a protein in food, sometimes even to a tiny amount. In an intolerance your body cannot properly process a component, such as lactose when you lack the enzyme lactase. The symptoms can look alike, but the approach differs: with an allergy you must avoid the food strictly, whereas with an intolerance a small amount is often still fine.
Diagnosis is done by your GP (huisarts) or allergist; we take care of the nutritional side. Using a food and symptom diary and, where appropriate, an elimination and challenge programme, we work out which foods cause your symptoms. We then build an eating pattern that stays complete: enough calcium without dairy, enough fibre and iron without wheat, and practical alternatives for the whole family.
We follow the guidelines of the Dutch dietetic profession and coordinate with your GP, paediatrician or allergist. For coeliac disease too, where gluten must be avoided for life, we guide you towards an eating pattern that is safe and varied.
What to expect from your programme
The aim is clarity about what you do and don't tolerate, and an eating pattern in which you lack nothing. Many people discover they can eat more than they thought, because only the real culprits are left out. Where needed we track weight and nutrient intake at the reviews.
We make no promises about kilos or timelines. What we do is measure the same way at every evaluation, so you see your progress in black and white.

Is a dietitian for food allergies and intolerances covered?
Yes. Dietary advice is covered for three hours per calendar year under the Dutch basic health insurance (basisverzekering), with no referral letter needed. With supplementary insurance you are often entitled to more sessions. If you are over 18, your deductible (eigen risico) applies, except within an integrated care network (ketenzorg). We are contracted with all Dutch health insurers and bill them directly, so you receive no invoice.
Dietitian without a referral letter
For dietary advice you do not need a referral from your GP (huisarts): you sign up directly online and we get in touch within one working day. Only if you want to be guided within integrated care (ketenzorg), so that your deductible is not touched, does your GP request a referral. Where useful, we always coordinate with your GP or specialist.
Frequently asked questions about food allergies and intolerances
Is an intolerance the same as an allergy?
No. In an allergy your immune system reacts; in an intolerance your body cannot properly process a substance. The approach differs, which is why we investigate carefully.
Is dietary advice for a food allergy covered by Dutch health insurance?
Yes. Three hours of dietary advice per calendar year are covered by the basic health insurance (basisverzekering), without a referral letter and with every Dutch insurer. For children under 18 no deductible (eigen risico) applies.
Can you test me for an allergy?
No. The diagnosis is made by your GP (huisarts) or allergist, for example with a blood test or skin-prick test. What we do is help you work out, with a food and symptom diary and an elimination and reintroduction programme, exactly which foods cause your symptoms.
How long does an intolerance programme take?
Usually an intake and two to three follow-up sessions spread over a few months: investigating, reintroducing and building a lasting eating pattern. That fits within the covered hours.
Can I see a dietitian online in the Netherlands?
Yes. Online video consultations are covered in exactly the same way as an appointment at one of our locations, wherever you live in the Netherlands. You can also mix and match: the intake in Amsterdam or Almere, for example, and the follow-up sessions from home. Let us know your preference when you register.

We experienced the guidance as very pleasant and personal.
My mother had lost a lot of weight due to health problems and was struggling to regain her strength. Thanks to the dietitian's excellent guidance she received suitable dietary advice, and Nutricia drinks were prescribed to give her extra support. She helped us a great deal with what my mother could best eat to gain some weight back and get stronger. Fortunately things are better now and she has regained some weight and strength. What I also really appreciate is that the dietitian regularly asks how things are going and stays involved. We experienced the guidance as very pleasant and personal. Highly recommended!
