Does this sound familiar?

When food takes over your thoughts, through dieting, binge eating or fear of certain foods, you need more than a meal plan. We offer support grounded in both nutrition and psychology.

Who is this guidance for?

If you recognise yourself in one or more of these situations, a dietitian is a logical next step. Not sure? A single question by e-mail is answered free of charge.

What we do

  • Calm, non-judgemental support at your own pace
  • Restoring a regular and complete eating pattern

  • Experience with a wide range of clients, including addiction issues

How nutrition helps with eating disorders

An eating disorder is a mental health condition in which food, weight and body image dominate a large part of your thoughts and behaviour. Well-known forms are anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa and binge eating disorder, but even without an official diagnosis, eating behaviour can become so disordered that it takes over your life. Treatment is ideally multidisciplinary: psychological treatment and dietetics complement each other.

The dietitian focuses on restoring a regular, complete eating pattern: relearning what a normal portion is, spreading eating moments across the day, gradually reducing the fear of certain foods and giving the body the nourishment it needs. We do this without judgement and at your pace, with an understanding of how hard that can be.

We work together with your GP (huisarts), psychologist or specialised treatment team, so that the support fits together. Where there are medical risks, such as a low weight or rapid weight loss, monitoring by your GP or specialist is needed; we coordinate that.

What to expect from your programme

The aim is an eating pattern that nourishes your body and gives your mind some rest: regular meals, less fear and fewer binges. Recovery from an eating disorder happens in steps and the pace differs from person to person. We only measure what is useful and agree in advance how we handle weighing.

We make no promises about kilos or timelines. What we do is measure the same way at every evaluation, so you see your progress in black and white.

Is a dietitian for eating disorders covered?

Yes. Dietary advice is covered for three hours per calendar year under the Dutch basic health insurance (basisverzekering), with no referral letter needed. With supplementary insurance you are often entitled to more sessions. If you are over 18, your deductible (eigen risico) applies, except within an integrated care network (ketenzorg). We are contracted with all Dutch health insurers and bill them directly, so you receive no invoice.

Everything about cover, deductible and fees

Dietitian without a referral letter

For dietary advice you do not need a referral from your GP (huisarts): you sign up directly online and we get in touch within one working day. Only if you want to be guided within integrated care (ketenzorg), so that your deductible is not touched, does your GP request a referral. Where useful, we always coordinate with your GP or specialist.

Frequently asked questions about eating disorders

Do you work together with my therapist?

Yes. With eating disorders we always prefer to work together with your GP, psychologist or specialised treatment team, so that the support fits together.

Is a dietitian for an eating disorder covered by Dutch health insurance?

Yes. Dietary advice is covered for three hours per calendar year under the basic health insurance (basisverzekering), with no referral letter needed. With supplementary insurance you are often entitled to more hours. Psychological treatment runs through mental health care (ggz) and has its own cover.

Do I have to be weighed?

Not without discussing it first. We agree in advance whether and how we weigh, for example without you seeing the number. Where there are medical risks, monitoring is necessary; we coordinate that with your doctor.

Can I see you without a diagnosis?

Yes. Even if food dominates your thoughts without an official diagnosis, you can register. Where needed we advise involving your GP as well.

Can I see a dietitian online in the Netherlands?

Yes. Online video consultations are covered in exactly the same way as an appointment at one of our locations, wherever you live in the Netherlands. You can also mix and match: the intake in Amsterdam or Almere, for example, and the follow-up sessions from home. Let us know your preference when you register.
