How our dietitians work

NutriHealth works according to evidence-based guidelines. We take a critical, person-centred look at new insights in our field and translate them into food that fits your life, culture and schedule. Measuring, explaining and thinking along with you, in your language.

How a programme works

Four phases, from sign-up to evaluation. An intake and two follow-up consultations fit entirely within the three hours a year that basic health insurance covers.

  1. Sign up

You sign up online, no referral letter needed. Choose one of our four locations, a home visit or a video call, and your preferred time. We get in touch within one working day to plan your intake.

    ± 3 minutes

  2. Intake appointment

A 60-minute conversation: we measure weight and body-fat percentage (circumference measurements where useful), take a dietary history and you receive personal advice straight away. Afterwards we spend 30 minutes working out your tailored sample day menu; 90 minutes of your cover in total.

    60 + 30 minutes

  3. Personal plan

Based on the intake we set treatment goals that fit your life and schedule. No standard lists, but choices you can keep up, including coordination with your GP or specialist where needed.

    1 week

  4. Guidance and adjustment

In 45-minute follow-up consultations, or short 30-minute consultations if you prefer to come more often, we discuss your progress, answer your questions and adjust your goals. We spread the consultations across the year and measure again, so your progress becomes visible and we can adjust in time.

What we measure

Weight and body fat percentage at every review, circumference measurements where useful, so your progress becomes visible. No empty promises.

We take every measurement the same way, so you can trust the trend over time. We explain the results and give them to you to take home.

  • Weight

At the intake and every evaluation, always in the same way, so the trend is reliable.

  • Circumference measurements (on request)

We measure waist and hip when it is useful for your goal: changes in body shape often show here before they show on the scales.

  • Body-fat percentage

Body composition alongside weight, so that muscle retention and fat loss become visible separately.

  • Dietary history

What, when and how much you eat, in your kitchen and your rhythm. The basis for every piece of advice we give.

Evidence-based and person-centred

Our advice is based on the guidelines of our profession and current scientific insights. But a guideline is not a person. That is why we translate that knowledge to your situation: your medical background, your kitchen, your work and your family.

Ten years of clinical experience, from elite athletes to complex medical cases. Where needed we coordinate with your GP, specialist or treatment team; within integrated care (ketenzorg) via ROHA that collaboration is standard.

What to bring to the intake?

Nothing more than this. If you join online or we visit you at home, keep your details to hand.

  • Proof of identity
  • Insurance details (insurance card or policy number)
  • Your medication list and recent lab results, if you have them
  • A referral from your GP for integrated care (diabetes, CVRM, COPD)

Dietitian without a referral letter: how to sign up

For dietary advice you do not need a referral from your GP (huisarts). You sign up online, tell us your preferred location and time, and we get in touch within one working day. Three hours of dietary advice a year are covered by Dutch basic health insurance (basisverzekering), at every insurer; we bill your insurer directly. Only within integrated care (ketenzorg: type 2 diabetes, CVRM, COPD) does your GP request a referral, and then your deductible (eigen risico) is not touched.

Online dietitian: how video calls work

An online consultation works the same as one at a location: you receive a link in advance, we go through your eating pattern, discuss your questions and adjust your goals. You weigh yourself at home following our instructions. Video calls are covered in the same way as an appointment at a location, and you can always switch, for example the intake at the practice and the follow-up consultations from home.

Frequently asked questions

About the first appointment, diets, online consultations and working together with your GP.

What happens in the first appointment?

The intake takes 60 minutes: a full screening with measurement of weight and body fat percentage (circumference measurements where useful), a dietary history and personal advice straight away. Afterwards we work out your personal plan and sample day menu; those 30 minutes of preparation are part of the intake, 90 minutes of your cover in total.

Will I have to follow a strict diet?

No. We work with a realistic eating pattern that fits your life, your kitchen and your schedule. Small steps you can keep up: little steps are the greatest.

Do you speak English?

Yes. Our dietitians are multilingual and consultations in English are no problem, in person or online. Expats and internationals are very welcome, and the cover from Dutch basic health insurance is exactly the same.

Do you work together with my GP?

Where needed we coordinate with your GP (huisarts) or specialist, for example for diabetes, malnutrition or cardiovascular disease. Within integrated care that collaboration is standard.
